Travis Hunter Reportedly Expected to Become 'Full-Time' CB, 'Part-Time' WR After Injury Rehab

Finding themselves flush with wide receivers right now, the Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly going to use Travis Hunter primarily at cornerback in 2026.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars are expecting to use Hunter as a "full-time" cornerback and "part-time" wide receiver.

Hunter's rookie season ended after just seven games due to a torn LCL suffered during an October practice.

Jaguars general manager James Gladstone told reporters on Thursday they expect Hunter to be back at full strength when training camp opens.

When the Jaguars traded up three spots to acquire the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL draft and select Hunter, he was announced as both a wide receiver and cornerback.

Head coach Liam Coen told reporters after they made the pick that Hunter would be used "primarily on offense" as they got him more acclimated to their defensive scheme.

Hunter played a total of 489 snaps during his rookie campaign, with 324 coming on offense, 162 on defense and three on special teams. He finished with 28 receptions, 298 yards and one touchdown as a receiver and three passes defensed as a cornerback.

Soon after Hunter's knee injury, the Jaguars traded for Jakobi Meyers in a move that helped spark the offense. He led the team with 53.7 receiving yards per game and earned a three-year, $60 million contract extension in December.

The Jaguars also got a breakout season from Parker Washington, who led the team with 847 receiving yards. Brian Thomas Jr. had a down year in 2025, but he looked like a superstar as a rookie the previous year.

When you combine all of that receiver talent on the roster with a cornerback room that has been lacking in playmakers for several years, the best move for the Jaguars in 2026 is preparing Hunter to play primarily on defense.
