What Is Travis Hunter's Timeline for Return from Injury After Knee Surgery?

Scott PolacekNov 11, 2025

Travis Hunter's rookie season is over.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Tuesday that the wide receiver and cornerback underwent knee surgery to repair his injured LCL and will miss the rest of the campaign.

"Beyond the LCL, there was no additional damage to the knee," the announcement read. "Hunter will miss the remainder of the 2025 season, but is expected to return within six months to full football activities."

Jacksonville traded up to select Hunter with the No. 2 overall selection of the 2025 NFL draft after he won the Heisman Trophy as a two-way star for Colorado.

There was some skepticism and debate about whether he could deal with the physical toll of playing on both sides of the ball and remain effective at the NFL level, but he lined up at both cornerback and wide receiver at times during his first seven games prior to the injury.

Hunter suffered the non-contact injury during practice last month and last appeared in a game on Oct. 19 against the Los Angeles Rams.

He tallied 28 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown as a receiver while posting three passes defended and 15 tackles as a cornerback.

The biggest question coming out of this injury will be whether he continues to play on both sides of the ball or if he and the Jaguars decide to focus on either offense or defense. While being able to play multiple positions at a high level would make Hunter extremely valuable, durability is an understandable concern.

That is especially true since he will be entering his second NFL season coming off surgery for a major injury. The team may want to limit his workload in training camp and early in the season in an effort to prevent another setback.

Whether that means the end of his time as a two-way player remains to be seen, but the Jaguars will now have to focus on competing for a playoff spot without him for the rest of the 2025 campaign.
