Kiyan Anthony, Carmelo's Son, Announces Decision on CBB Future After Syracuse Hires Gerry McNamara

Kiyan Anthony is coming back for his sophomore season at Syracuse.

The guard, who is the son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, announced as much on his Instagram page Wednesday.

The decision is all the more notable after the Orange hired Gerry McNamara as their new head coach. McNamara played alongside Carmelo Anthony on the program's 2003 national title team.

McNamara is still best known for his role on that team, but he just led Siena to a MAAC tournament championship and NCAA men's tournament appearance. While the Saints lost to top-seeded Duke in the first round of the Big Dance, they were winning for extended stretches and fell by just six points.

He must have shown enough as a coach to convince Syracuse to bring him home, and now he will have the chance to coach his former teammate's son.

Kiyan Anthony was a 4-star prospect and the No. 34 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings. That recruiting status, along with his namesake, raised expectations heading into his freshman campaign.

He was a modest contributor in his first season and averaged 8.0 points and 1.4 rebounds per game while shooting 39.9 percent from the field and 25.4 percent from deep. He flashed his talent by scoring 15 or more points in each of his first three career games but settled into more of a bench role as the season progressed.

Anthony did score in double figures in ACC games against Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina and SMU and has plenty of potential.

He will likely play a larger role in his sophomore season, which will be at Syracuse after Wednesday's decision.
