New Warriors Rumors Update Steve Kerr Contract, Retirement Buzz Ahead of 2026 NBA Playoffs
As the final year of his current contract nears its end, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will have a big decision to make on his future in the NBA.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that the Warriors are hoping to lock Kerr up on a multiyear deal as opposed to a one-year contract for the 2026-27 campaign.
"One whisper you do hear emanating from the Bay Area, however, is that the Warriors would prefer to extend Kerr for longer than one season if they ultimately agree to terms on a new deal," Fischer stated. "It's believed that Warriors officials would rather avoid a Last Dance scenario if they can while also crossing their fingers that Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody can bounce back as swiftly as possible in 2026-27 from their recent season-ending injuries."

At 37-42, the Warriors are set to compete in the play-in tournament, where they will have to win two games to earn a spot in the playoffs. Golden State has struggled to find success in the postseason since its 2022 NBA championship, and another early exit could change the plans for the end of Kerr's tenure with the franchise.
For now, it sounds like the Warriors are committed to keeping Kerr in the fold for the foreseeable future, so it will be interesting to see if the end results of this season affect the team's mindset.
