Luka Doncic Injury Update Given By JJ Redick as Lakers Star in 'Relatively Good Spirits' Amid Rehab
Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić is in "relatively good spirits" as he rehabs from a left hamstring strain overseas, head coach JJ Redick told reporters Thursday.
Shortly after he suffered the injury, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Dončić travelled to Spain to receive an injection procedure that was hoped to "promote healing."
Dončić was putting together an All-NBA caliber year when he suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring strain against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The initial timeline has Dončić missing the end of the regular season and perhaps more.
The injury came amid Dončić's best stretch of the season. Over the course of March, he put up 37.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game, leading the Lakers on a run that saw them win 16 of 18 games.
In his first full season with the Lakers, Dončić had an MVP-caliber year with 33.5 points, 8.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game. Los Angeles is currently sitting in fourth place in the West at 50-29.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, Dončić wasn't the only Laker to suffer a late-season injury. Star guard Austin Reaves, who had the best season of his career, suffered an oblique injury in April that gave him a timeline of four-to-six weeks.
When fully healthy, Los Angeles has looked like a team capable of a Finals run, but whether the Lakers will be fully healthy this postseason remains to be seen.
