UConn Removes Lamp Posts, Increases Security Ahead of 2026 March Madness Championship vs. Michigan

Doric SamApr 6, 2026

UConn is taking preemptive measures to avoid any damage to its campus ahead of Monday night's NCAA Tournament national championship game against Michigan.

The university told TMZ that it is removing some lamp posts and increasing security in case there is a raucous celebration after Monday night's game.

The Huskies won the men's national championship in 2023 and 2024, so the university knows how wild it could get on campus while students celebrate. In a video from their 2023 victory, students were seen ramming a lamp post into the locked doors of a campus building.

"We have removed some lamp posts on campus as a proactive way of preventing possible vandalism that could result from the celebration of tonight's games," a UConn spokesperson told TMZ. "This is the third time we have removed the lamp posts, and it has proven effective, along with an increased security presence and student messaging."

UConn will face a tough road to its third national championship in the last four years, as it is facing a Michigan team that has scored 90 points or more in all five of its tournament games before Monday night's final.
