Yaxel Lendeborg Updates Injury Status for NCAA Championship Game vs. UConn After Michigan's Win

Joseph ZuckerApr 6, 2026

Michigan star Yaxel Lendeborg is aiming to suit up for Monday's national championship against UConn.

"I will be on that floor in that game," he said, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Team trainer Chris Williams also told Thamel he's "very confident" the senior forward will be healthy enough to play through ankle and knee injuries.

Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports provided an update on Monday ahead of the title game:

Michigan head coach Dusty May also told reporters he expects Lendeborg to play against UConn after an MRI on his injuries came back clean:

"He might move into my room," Williams said. "You're laughing, but he might move into my room. We have two beds in there, so we might have to find another room for my wife and my son."

Lendeborg was limited to 14 minutes of action in Saturday's 91-73 blowout of Arizona in the semifinals. He finished with 11 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal.

The first-team All-American rolled his ankle while driving to the basket with 8:51 left in the first half. He stayed in long enough to knock down a pair of free throws and subbed out for Morez Johnson Jr.

Lendeborg returned to start the second half.

"I definitely thought it was over," he told reporters of initially getting hurt. "Honestly, as soon as it happened, I definitely felt the pain in both ankle and knee. I was definitely scared. I was worried. But I wanted to take the free throw, see how I felt, you know?

"I've seen a lot of videos of Kobe doing it. So it's like it's like my Kobe moment. But after all the anger and all the adrenaline went away, I started crying right away, man. I was asking the God to help me."

Lendeborg is Michigan's leading scorer at 15.1 points per game, and he's second on the team in rebounds (6.9) and assists (3.3). The UAB transfer is on his way to being a potential lottery pick in the 2026 NBA draft.

Needless to say, the Wolverines could use Lendeborg when they battle the Huskies on Monday night, and all indications are that he'll play. Whether he's 100 percent is another question.
