Draymond Green Reveals 'Ideal' 2026 NBA Free Agency Contract Outcome amid Warriors Rumors
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has a player option for the 2026-27 season at $27.7 million, but he told Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard that he would ideally like to decline the option and agree to an extension with the Dubs.
"Rich and I discussed it a couple months ago briefly," Draymond said regarding a conversation he had with his agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group. "We haven't talked much about it because we don't deal with those things until the offseason. But I think in an ideal world, and again, this is me talking without me talking to my representation so Rich will probably kill me. But in an ideal world, I think the best path would be to decline and extend. If I had it my way, that would be the best path forward."

The 36-year-old Green has played all 14 of his NBA seasons with the Warriors, winning four NBA titles, making nine All-NBA Defensive Teams and earning spots on a pair of All-NBA squads. He was the 2016-17 Defensive Player of the Year as well. He's a likely future Basketball Hall of Famer, but there's the question of how much longer Green will play in the NBA.
"When we do speak about it, we speak of it in terms of summers," Green told Kawakami. "How many more summers am I willing to give to this? Because ultimately, that's what it boils down to, right? How many more summers am I taking away from things with my kids? How many more summers am I willing to build my whole life around preparing for an NBA season? โฆ
"We don't speak on it in the sense of, 'Man, how many years I'm going to go, how long till you walk out, do we walk out together?' We haven't discussed it in that manner. What we do discuss is, 'Man, how many more summers do you think you could do this?' โฆ And quite honestly, the last we spoke about it, we both agreed we had two or three more summers. So we'll see."
Green has averaged 8.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists in 64 starts for the 36-41 Warriors, who will be participating in the play-in tournament this year. He's been a constant for a team that has unfortunately been beset by a host of injuries, including a season-ending torn ACL to Jimmy Butler and runner's knee for Stephen Curry, who has been out since January.
We'll see about Green's future in Golden State soon enough. In the meantime, Golden State is hoping to end the regular season strong beginning Sunday at home vs. the Houston Rockets.
