New NBA Rumors on Mavs' Links to Bob Myers, Tim Connelly For GM Role After Nico Harrison Firing
The Dallas Mavericks haven't yet found a replacement for former general manager Nico Harrison, but it sounds like they have a few big names in mind to fill the role.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that league sources said that "the most frequently whispered Dallas target from that category is actually former Golden State Warriors lead executive Bob Myers." It was also noted that Dallas "would have strong interest in Minnesota's Tim Connelly if Connelly were to leave the Timberwolves at season's end as some rival teams have forecasted."
Of course, it's not guaranteed that Connelly will depart the Timberwolves this offseason, as he's under contract through 2027 after opting into the final two years of his deal.
Stein also explained that Myers "currently holds an extremely lucrative job as president for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment that calls for him to provide high-level consulting for all of the pro sports franchises in the HBSE portfolio. That includes the New Jersey Devils (NHL) and Crystal Palace Football Club (English Premier League) in addition to the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers … with Myers also part of the hierarchy with the Josh Harris-owned Washington Commanders (NFL)."
Stein reported that Mavs owner Patrick Dumont "has lofty ambitions" and "wants to see if there is any hope of Dallas landing a marquee team-builder by pursuing some of the league's most decorated top executives to take over his front office." Oklahoma City's Sam Presti, San Antonio's R.C. Buford and Boston's Brad Stevens were named as potential targets, but the Mavs reportedly "realistically know that they have no calculable shot at luring any of them away from their current situations."
Myers helped construct the NBA's last dynasty, as the Warriors won four championships during his tenure. He also has a strong relationship with Mavs CEO Rick Welts from their time together in Golden State, and Stein noted that he "would naturally have Welts' strong backing after their successful years together with the Warriors" if he were to land in Dallas.
At 24-52, the Mavs have been eliminated from playoff contention and could land another high lottery pick in the 2026 NBA draft to continue building around 2025 No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg. The team's next GM will be able to shape the future of the franchise, so Dallas must get its next hire correct after its disastrous run under Harrison.
