'Unicorn' Myles Garrett Hyped by Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam amid NFL Trade Rumors

Julia StumbaughMar 31, 2026

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam had high praise for Myles Garrett shortly after his team agreed to a revised contract with the star defender.

"Guys like Myles Garrett do not come along very much," Haslam said Monday during NFL league meetings in Arizona, per The Athletic's Jason Lloyd. "He is a unicorn. And Myles is an integral part of what we do."

Haslam's comment comes the day after Browns general manager Andrew Berry told reporters he would not be trading Garrett this offseason.

Garrett is currently signed through the 2030 season. He and the Browns recently agreed to a modified contract that offers the team more salary cap flexibility, per ESPN's Field Yates.

Berry told reporters those adjustments, which would make it easier for Cleveland to spread out the dead cap hit associated with a trade over multiple seasons, were not made with a potential trade for Garrett in mind.

"Myles is a career Brown. He is one of the faces of our organization... I understand all the questions. I'll be honest, I don't really want to waste a ton more breath on them," Berry said Sunday.

Garrett requested a trade from the Browns in February 2025, although he signed his fourth-year extension with the team the following March.

The star defensive end went on to record a sixth straight Pro Bowl season while breaking the single-season sack record with 23.0 sacks in 17 games of his ninth season in Cleveland.

His elite defense wasn't enough to make up for the Browns' offense, which averaged just 16.4 points per game while rotating through three starting quarterbacks in Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

Berry said while speaking to reporters Sunday the team would want any quarterback brought in this offseason to compete with Sanders, Gabriel or Deshaun Watson for the QB1 job.

Trading Garrett would theoretically have helped the Browns acquire draft capital that could be useful in a trade for a veteran signal caller.

The Browns still hold 10 picks in the upcoming draft, including four picks in the first three rounds, that could potentially be put on the trade block should Berry decide to pursue a more experienced quarterback this offseason.
