Seth Rollins Returns from Injury at WWE Raw, WrestleMania 42 Match Announced vs. Gunther

Both Gunther and Seth Rollins have their opponents for WrestleMania 42 after WWE found a straightforward solution.

Raw general manager Adam Pearce announced Monday night on Raw that Rollins, who has been out since October with a shoulder injury, is cleared to compete. Gunther spoiled the occasion by attacking Rollins:

That sets the stage for Rollins vs. Gunther at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Both stars were lacking a clear direction heading into the biggest show of the year.

Bron Breakker was the most logical foe for Rollins. At least for storyline purposes, he's the person who put The Visionary on the shelf for multiple months. Having them fully ignite their feud at WrestleMania made perfect sense.

Breakker is still unavailable after having undergone hernia surgery, however. Bronson Reed, his stablemate in The Vision, is also recovering from a torn biceps, so he was off the table as well.

Gunther was in a similar predicament as he was reportedly slated to face off with Rey Mysterio in WWE's original plan. Mysterio has yet to fully heal from the rib injury he suffered in January.

The Ring General is building his reputation on sending legendary stars into retirement, and there aren't any stars for him to retire right now.

If WWE is trying to make Gunther an even bigger heel, then leaving him off WrestleMania altogether wouldn't have looked good. Forcing him into a lackluster midcard match wouldn't have achieved a lot, either.

There isn't much history between Gunther and Rollins, making it unclear why Gunther would come to Paul Heyman's aid or simply want to attack Rollins for its own purposes.

But this isn't a match that should require a lot of backstory. Gunther vs. Rollins could be a lot of fun if they're provided with enough time to do their storytelling in the ring.
