Everything Jon Scheyer Said About Duke's Historic March Madness Collapse to UConn in Elite 8

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer was at a loss for words following the team's late collapse in a 73-72 loss to UConn in the Elite Eight of the 2026 NCAA tournament.

"I don't have the words (to process) what happened," Scheyer told reporters after the game.

Scheyer also said that he "could not be more disappointed" with the final result.

Duke blew a 19-point lead against UConn on Sunday, as the Huskies' comeback was capped off by a deep triple from freshman Braylon Mullins with 0.3 seconds left in the game.

Duke started the game on a high note, opening with a 14-6 lead. The Blue Devils didn't show many signs of slowing down afterwards, pushing their advantage to 44-25 with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.

While UConn closed the half on a brief 4-0 run, Scheyer's squad was still in a favorable position at halftime.

The Blue Devils extended their lead to 17 points multiple times early in the second half, although the Huskies fought back.

UConn cut the deficit to single digits with 12 minutes left in the half, eventually pulling to within five points as four minutes remained in the game.

Duke initially kept the Huskies from taking the lead with multiple late buckets from standout freshman Cameron Boozer, but a late turnover by Cayden Boozer set up Mullins for the game-winning shot.

The Blue Devils had high expectations heading into the tournament, as they entered Sunday's action on a 14-game winning streak. They also won the 2026 ACC tournament as well as the conference's regular-season title.

Still, Scheyer and Duke were unable to make a second consecutive Final Four appearance.
