Dan Hurley Recalls Recruiting Message to Braylon Mullins After Epic Shot to Send UConn to Final Four
UConn men's basketball is headed to the Final Four in Indianapolis after freshman guard Braylon Mullins drilled a 35-foot three-pointer with four-tenths of a second remaining in the No. 2 seed Huskies' 73-72 win over No. 1 overall seed Duke on Sunday in Washington, D.C.
After the game, UConn head coach Dan Hurley caught up with CBS Sports sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson and said he told Mullins, who grew up outside Indianapolis in Greenfield, Indiana, during his recruitment that he would be heading back home for the Final Four (1:38 mark).
"We're gonna enjoy Indy. We told Braylon Mullins when we recruited him, we're bringing him back to Indy for the Final Four. And now Braylon Mullins is going back to Indy for the Final Four."
Sure enough, that's happened thanks to Mullins himself, who delivered one of the most clutch shots in college basketball history.
Mullins was a 5-star recruit in the class of 2025 and ranked 15th overall on the 247Sports Composite list. He visited UConn, UNC, Indiana and Michigan before choosing the Huskies.
That's certainly worked out well for Mullins, who is one of five UConn players to average 10 or more points this season.
UConn is now moving on to its third Final Four in four seasons under Hurley. The first two trips went quite well, with the Huskies winning back-to-back national championships in 2023 and 2024.
Now UConn is playing No. 3 seed Illinois in the Final Four, with a pair of No. 1 seeds (Arizona and Michigan) on the other side of the bracket.
Tipoff for the UConn game will take place at 6:09 p.m. ET on Saturday.
