New Stephen Curry Injury Rumors Reveal Star's Target Date for Return to Warriors Lineup
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is targeting Sunday's game against the Houston Rockets to make his return from a knee injury, according to The Athletic's Sam Amick and Nick Friedell.
Curry, who went through his first full practice in two months on Tuesday, took a "good step" forward toward a return, according to head coach Steve Kerr.
According to Amick and Friedell, Curry "handled the scrimmage well, but his status will continue to be assessed daily."
Curry addressed the scrimmage with ESPN's Anthony Slater:
"It felt great. I'm checking the boxes. But with this, it's always unpredictable because I don't know how the knee will respond because it hasn't responded well in the past attempts to get to this five-on-five level. I'm right where I need to be for right now and I'm hoping that it continues until the weekend."
Curry hasn't appeared in a game since Jan. 30 due to patellofemoral pain syndrome, also known as "runner's knee."
Curry's knee issues initially popped up during an individual workout in Minneapolis on Jan. 24, per Charania and Slater. He was first hopeful to make his return after the All-Star break, but has experienced multiple setbacks while trying to recover.
The Warriors have already been hit hard by injuries this year, as Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending torn ACL on Jan. 19. Kristaps Porziņģis, Golden State's key trade deadline acquisition, has also missed time due to an illness though he's since returned.
The Warriors are currently 36-39 ahead of Wednesday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs and are clinging to the final spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament.
Curry's eventual return should provide a boost to Golden State's offensive output, as he earned his 12th career All-Star nod prior to the knee issue.
He's averaging 27.2 points, 4.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from three-point territory during his 2025-26 campaign.
