Boston College has hired UConn men's basketball assistant Luke Murray to be its next head coach, the team announced Thursday.

ESPN's Jeff Borzello first reported the two sides were finalizing a deal.

UConn head coach Dan Hurley praised Murray after the news broke.

The 40-year-old Murray has been an assistant under Hurley since 2021. He helped guide the Huskies to back-to-back national championships in 2022 and 2023, and UConn is currently alive as a No. 2 seed in the Sweet Sixteen of the 2026 tournament.

Murray's father is American actor and comedian Bill Murray, who has been a frequent attendee at his son's games. He was present for UConn's first- and second-round wins against Furman and UCLA this year.

The younger Murray has an exceptional resume and is well-deserving of a head coaching opportunity. He made eight collegiate stops before landing at UConn. Two of the seven were under Hurley at Wagner (2010-11) and Rhode Island (2013-2015). Murray also worked for Quinnipiac (director of basketball operations), Post, Arizona (graduate assistant), Towson, Xavier and Louisville.

Numerous college basketball analysts and reporters raved about Murray after the news broke. Jeff Goodman of Field of 68 said Murray has "been huge in the Huskies' success." Borzello wrote he's "established himself as an elite offensive tactician."

Sam Vecenie and Brendan Marks of The Athletic also praised Murray.

Boston College was in the market for a new coach after parting ways with Earl Grant after five seasons. The Eagles have not made the NCAA tournament since 2009 or posted a winning season in the ACC since 2011. This year's team went 11-20 and 4-14 in conference play.
