Tommy Lloyd '100% Focused on Arizona' amid UNC HC Links After Hubert Davis Exit
Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd is keeping his focus on the Wildcats after being linked to North Carolina's opening at head coach following Hubert Davis' firing.
"I already have one of the best jobs in the country," Lloyd said when asked about possible interest from the Tar Heels on Wednesday, via Sports Illustrated's Pat Forde. "And ... I think our team's been crushing it this year is just the ability to have full focus and be present in the moment. And so I think we have a great team. I think we have a chance to advance in this tournament game by game, but I'm not delusional. I know we could lose tomorrow. But this team deserves my full focus. So there's not one thing that is going to knock me off my path."
"I'm 100 percent focused on Arizona basketball and this program, and I can't wait 'til the ball gets thrown up tomorrow and then can't wait to try to figure out a way to come out on top," he added.
While Lloyd staying focused on his Wildcats squad that's currently preparing for the Sweet 16 of the 2026 NCAA tournament is understandable, it's worth noting that he didn't seem to refute rumors that have linked him to North Carolina.
Yahoo Sports' Dan Wolken previously brought up Lloyd as a person that the Tar Heels "will and should initially target."
North Carolina fired Davis on Tuesday, as the team fell to VCU in the first round of March Madness.
As for Lloyd, he owns a 146-35 record during his tenure with the Wildcats and has helped lead them to NCAA tournament appearances in all five of his seasons with the school.
Arizona has also won three regular-season conference titles and three conference tournament titles under Lloyd, which includes the team's time in the Pac-12 and Big 12.
For now, the Wildcats are set to face off against Arkansas on Thursday at 9:45 p.m. ET.
