Matches to Book for WWE WrestleMania 42 Match Card

Donald WoodMar 25, 2026

The build to WrestleMania 42 has been lackluster at best so far, but WWE has the chance to add several marquee matches to the two-day card that could save the perception of the premium live event.

Triple H and the WWE Creative Team have failed to build storylines that fans want to see on the Road to WrestleMania, but with so many bouts to book for the two-day spectacle, there are still ways to make hardcore and casual fans enjoy the show.

Here are the matches WWE must add to the WrestleMania 42 card.

Iyo Sky vs. Asuka

One way to overcompensate for the lackluster main event scenes is to bolster the midcard with dream matchups. There is no better example of this than the possible WrestleMania 42 bout between Iyo Sky and Asuka.

Sky and Asuka have history in WWE, something the company's creative team could play on during the build to the April PLE.

With Sky standing up for Kairi Sane, she would take on the role of babyface, while The Empress of Tomorrow continues to portray the monster heel.

From an in-ring perspective, both women helped revolutionize WWE's women's division with hard-hitting, fast-paced matches, and WrestleMania would be no different. Their shared upbringing in Japanese wrestling adds a layer of intensity that few bouts on this two-day card can match.

With Iyo's high-risk aerial offense and Asuka's striking and submission skills, the midcard match could easily steal the show. Add WWE's ability to showcase international talent on its biggest stage, and this is a must-add to the WrestleMania card.

United States Championship: Carmelo Hayes vs. Ilja Dragunov

Since winning the WWE United States Championship, Carmelo Hayes has done everything in his power to make the title relevant again, but the lack of depth in the storytelling has been discouraging.

However, Ilja Dragunov may be the answer to fans' prayers.

Hayes and Dragunov had a series of memorable matches that led to the title changing hands to end 2025, but the duo has rekindled their rivalry on SmackDown in recent weeks, and the resulting bouts have been nothing short of amazing.

At WrestleMania 42, Triple H and WWE Creative should book Hayes and Dragunov in an Iron Man match.

With both men owning marquee victories over the other—and the company desperately trying to fill out two days of wrestling—the contest would elevate the wrestling quality of the show and give hardcore fans something worthy of the stage.

Women's Tag Team Championship Madness

For the first time, the women's tag team scene in WWE—as well as All Elite Wrestling—is being booked strongly and filled with bona fide stars.

As a result, the company needs to book a multi-team match that highlights the division's momentum and star power.

Alongside current women's tag team champions Nia Jax and Lash Legend, the division also boasts popular teams such as The Bella Twins, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, and now the duo of Lyra Valkyria and Bayley.

If Bayley is not involved in the women's IC title match featuring AJ Lee and Becky Lynch, the tag team battle alongside Valkyria is a solid consolation prize.

In the ring, the four teams would put on a showcase, proving they deserve a spot on the biggest stage.

The combination of unique styles will ensure a fast-paced, unpredictable match that keeps the crowd engaged. On a card as deep as a two-day WrestleMania, this bout would not only deliver spectacle but also reestablish the Women's Tag Team Championships as a must-watch attraction.
