Pirates' Konnor Griffin Agrees to Under Armour Contract, MLB's No. 1 Overall Prospect

Adam WellsMar 24, 2026

Even though Konnor Griffin won't start the 2026 MLB season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, MLB's top prospect is cashing in on his expected stardom in a deal with Under Armour.

Under Armour confirmed on Tuesday that Griffin will sign a multi-year cleat and apparel deal.

Griffin is entering the season as the near-unanimous No. 1 prospect in MLB, including from MLB.com, The Athletic's Keith Law, ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Baseball America.

There was some thought early in spring training that Griffin, who doesn't turn 20 until April 24, might make the opening day 26-man roster. He hit two homers in Pittsburgh's third spring game to significantly increase the hype.

Griffin did slow down as the spring went on, posting a .171/.261/.488 slash line in 16 games. He was reassigned to minor league camp on Saturday and will start the season in Triple-A, but it shouldn't take long before he's manning shortstop in Pittsburgh.

If Griffin had made the Pirates' roster out of camp, he would have been the first 19-year-old to do so for an MLB team since Elvis Luciano made his debut for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft, Griffin hit .333/.415/.527 with 21 homers and 65 stolen bases in 122 games across three levels of the minors last year.

Griffin will begin the year with the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis. The club will open the season on Friday at home against the St. Paul Saints (Minnesota Twins).

The Pirates will open the MLB season on Thursday against the New York Mets at Citi Field.
