New NFL Rumors on Maxx Crosby's Trade Market, Raiders' Asking Price Ahead of Draft
While the Baltimore Ravens backed out of trading for Las Vegas Raiders star edge rusher Maxx Crosby over medical concerns, it sounds like other teams are still interested in acquiring him.
ESPN's Ryan McFadden reported that teams are still evaluating the possibility of trading for Crosby, though he added that the Raiders' asking price could be too high to get a deal done anytime soon.
"Teams continue to check in on his availability, but as of now, the Raiders' asking price to trade Crosby's contract remains high. And given what has happened, teams are hesitant to meet it, a league source said," McFadden explained. "Multiple Raiders sources say they'd be surprised if Crosby was traded in the short term. Perhaps a window of opportunity opens closer to the draft, but the team is certainly keeping an open mind on retaining him."
The Raiders initially sent Crosby to the Ravens in exchange for two first-round draft picks, but Baltimore nixed the deal due to concerns that arose during his team physical. Crosby underwent surgery in January to repair his meniscus, but the 28-year-old has never missed more than five games in a single season.
McFadden added, "Sources with the Raiders and those close to Crosby are skeptical that his medical state was the sole motive for the trade reversal, given the timing and that Baltimore had a full understanding of the injury before the trade." A source with direct knowledge of the situation told McFadden that the Ravens "had access to imaging and the doctors' reports on it."
Still, Baltimore pivoted by signing former Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson in free agency, leaving the door open for other teams to try to pry Crosby away from the Raiders. According to McFadden, the Dallas Cowboys "contemplated getting back into the chase," though a source said that "they were not reengaging in talks" with Las Vegas at the moment.
Crosby has made it clear that his preference would be to remain in Sin City, but as the Raiders continue their rebuild, they will likely keep their options open. Trading Crosby would garner a significant return that could help Las Vegas improve significantly over the next few years.
