
Dan Hurley, UConn Beat Mick Cronin, UCLA to Reach Sweet 16 as Fans Impressed By March Madness Win
The UConn Huskies and Dan Hurley are headed to the Sweet 16 after a 73-57 win over UCLA on Sunday in the NCAA Tournament, continuing their postseason push in commanding fashion.
UConn will face No. 3 Michigan State in the next round following its victory in Philadelphia.
Behind a career-high 27 points from senior Alex Karaban, UConn has it's sights set on an NCAA championship for the first time since it's back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024.
Mick Cronin and the UCLA Bruins will head into the offseason after an impressive first-round win over UCF, falling short of a deeper tournament run.
The Huskies took a 38-33 lead into halftime after a tightly contested first half that featured the two teams battling for the lead.
The second half turned into a game of runs. UCLA came out strong, tying the game within the first 3:30 to prevent UConn from pulling away early.
UConn responded with a 14-0 run to take a 56-44 lead and seize control, but UCLA answered with an 8-0 run to cut into the deficit.
The Huskies delivered the final blow with a 9-0 run, stretching the lead to 67-54 with just over four minutes remaining, as UCLA ran out of steam and UConn pulled away down the stretch.
UConn and Michigan State will get some time off before they face one another on March 27.
