WWE Rumors on Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker, Street Profits
Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.
Bronson Reed Reportedly Contributed to Rhodes vs. Orton Decision
Bronson Reed landing on the shelf due to injury reportedly played a role in WWE's direction for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlePurists), Reed suffering a torn biceps "for whatever reason was the clincher" in the decision to go with Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton at WrestleMania.
Meltzer noted that the original plan was for Rhodes to feud with Orton after WrestleMania, which likely would have meant Rhodes facing Drew McIntyre with potential involvement from Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania.
Reed's involvement is unclear since he is a member of Raw with The Vision and hadn't had any interaction with Rhodes, Orton, McIntyre or Fatu for quite some time.
Per BodySlam.net (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), Reed was originally supposed to be in the men's Elimination Chamber match, but the spot when to fellow Vision member Logan Paul instead because of Reed's injury, which was suffered last month during an Elimination Chamber qualifying match.
Orton won the Chamber by pinning Rhodes after interference from McIntyre, so Reed would have mixed it up with them in the Chamber had he not gotten injured.
Rhodes went on to beat McIntyre for the WWE title on the ensuing episode of SmackDown, and since Fatu got involved in the match, all signs point toward a separate WrestleMania singles match between McIntyre and Fatu.
Reed doesn't figure to be back in time for WrestleMania next month, so WWE's plans for him on the Grandest Stage of Them All will remain a mystery.
Latest on Breakker's Potential Timeline for In-Ring Return
Bron Breakker has been out of action since the Feb. 2 episode of Raw, but there is reportedly hope within WWE that he will be back in time for WrestleMania 42.
According to Meltzer (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Breakker underwent surgery to repair a "serious hernia," and there was no clear timetable for his return.
However, WrestleVotes on Fightful Select (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News) reported this week that there is optimism among people in WWE that Breakker will make it back for WrestleMania, and plans are being made in case he can.
WWE's booking since Seth Rollins' return from a shoulder injury last month at Elimination Chamber has seemingly been a clue that Breakker competing at WrestleMania is a possibility.
In October, Breakker attacked Rollins and kicked him out of The Vision as a cover for his shoulder injury, setting up a potential WrestleMania match between them.
Rollins returned at Elimination Chamber by hitting Paul with a steel chair, and he has been at odds with The Vision ever since.
Paul and Austin Theory seem to be building toward a tag team title match against The Usos, and Brock Lesnar was attacked this week on Raw by Oba Femi, setting up a WrestleMania match between them.
With Reed out, Breakker is the only Superstar who would make sense as Rollins' WrestleMania opponent, and WrestleVotes' report suggests the match may very well happen after weeks of uncertainty.
Reported Plans for Street Profits' On-Screen Return
The Street Profits haven't made a televised WWE appearance since October, but their absence reportedly may not last much longer.
According to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select (h/t Mukherjee), WWE's creative team has discussed The Street Profits' recently, and their return may be in the works, although there is no set timeline for it to happen.
Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins lost a WWE Tag Team Championship match to The Wyatt Sicks on an episode of SmackDown in Australia in October, and with the exception of appearances on Main Event the next couple of weeks, they have not been on a show since then.
The Street Profits did work an untelevised NXT live event in January, though, beating Charlie Dempsey and Lexis King in a tag bout.
That could have been a sign that WWE was preparing to re-integrate them, but it has been nearly two months since that particular match.
The Street Profits have long been one of WWE's premier tag teams, holding the tag titles three times on the main roster and once in NXT.
With numerous teams going after The MFTs and the WWE tag team titles leading up to WrestleMania, it could be the ideal time for The Street Profits to re-enter the fold.
