Seth Rollins is WWE's Biggest 'What If' on Road to WrestleMania 42
The road to WWE WrestleMania 42 is unclear for Seth Rollins, and he still has some time to make up for following a setback last October.
The 39-year-old ditched his flamboyant outfits and maniacal laugh and donned a mask and hoodie in his bid for revenge on what's left of The Vision. His subdued look and modest presentation will likely lead to a character change, but fans still want to know who his next opponent will be.
As in 2022, Rollins has been doing the heavy lifting to build toward an unannounced match since his return at Elimination Chamber. Bron Breakker is the most intriguing matchup for him, but his status is still uncertain.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE is optimistic that the second-generation wrestler will recuperate in time for The Show of Shows. Still, this scenic route back to Allegiant Stadium undoubtedly isn't the scenario envisioned for Rollins after a statement win at the venue last year.
The company's stalwart looks as motivated as ever to perform under the bright lights in Las Vegas, NV. However, he is the biggest what-if in search of his next moment on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
A Vision Without Action
Imagine what could've been if Rollins didn't injure his shoulder at Crown Jewel: Perth. The Visionary was on pace to face Roman Reigns in a long-awaited one-on-one match this year.
This was the logical conclusion to The Tribal Chief's run-ins with him and The Vision. Even more, their showdown had been brewing since Rollins won their encounter at Royal Rumble in 2022 via disqualification.
His triumphant heel turn at WrestleMania 41 granted him the chance to step out of Reigns' shadow and play spoiler in CM Punk's first main event appearance. In October, he finally defeated Cody Rhodes and earned the vindication he had sought since the prodigal son returned.

The outcome of the men's Royal Rumble match would've felt so much more rewarding if Reigns had gained the means to avenge his loss to Rollins and Paul Heyman instead. The pieces were in place, and The Showcase of the Immortals was an ideal destination for a rivalry with so much history.
This was the best time to capitalize on it. WWE won't get a better opportunity to pay off this feud at the event any time soon.

An Inevitable Clash With Bron Breakker
Breakker commanded the screen when he ousted Rollins and raised the world heavyweight championship. The company has earmarked the 28-year-old as the next up-and-comer for some time, but the act of mutiny minted him as a contender.
So much so that it surprised most viewers when WWE delayed his crowning moment, and he drifted out of the spotlight. Although he regained some momentum at the end of 2025, Breakker unsuccessfully challenged Punk for the title in January.
The former Intercontinental champion stumbled in his mentor's absence. If his embarrassing exit from the men's Royal Rumble match wasn't bad enough, he sustained a severe hernia a week later.
An emphatic return in time to confront the man he felt held him back could right the ship. Still, it's hard not to lament what could've been for Breakker if Rollins hadn't gotten injured too.

Their tension would've progressed naturally, and the split wouldn't have been as rushed. To that end, toppling the leader of The Vision for the title would've elevated him more than the ambush did.
Nevertheless, the two could inevitably clash in April, and the ensuing battle should give Breakker the break he needs to storm the main event scene. It's not a perfect solution, but it would advance this storyline and put him back on the right track.
This undeniably feels like a step backwards for Rollins and an underwhelming end to his tenure with The Vision. However, their match could propel his protege forward and set him on the path to redemption.
It may be hard not to think about what-ifs, but The Visionary has delivered so many times on the big stage. Expect him to lock in and put his all into whatever he does in the months to come.
