Why Is Chase Johnston Trending? Latest on High Point's Guard from March Madness Upset vs. Wisconsin
Welcome to the Big Dance, Cinderella.
Chase Johnston led 12th-seeded High Point to a stunning 83-82 upset of fifth-seeded Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA men's tournament on Thursday. Johnston scored the game-winning basket in transition, which just so happened to be his first two-point make of the season.

He also finished with 14 points and went 4-of-6 from three-point range and 1-of-1 from two-point range. Johnston was 64-of-132 from beyond the arc during the regular season and 0-of-4 from two-point range.
Even before leading the Panthers to the first major upset of the tournament, Johnston made national headlines because of his unusual season.
After all, he attempted just four two-point shots throughout the entire campaign. By comparison, he averaged 13.0 three-point attempts a night during the season. While he opened the season in the team's starting lineup, he has since transitioned to a sharp-shooter role off the bench.
And he filled that role perfectly on the biggest stage Thursday.
His outside shooting helped turn the game for High Point, which trailed by double digits against a powerful Big Ten opponent many fans surely expected to cruise to a victory. It wasn't just a one-man show, though, as Rob Martin spearheaded the underdog's scoring efforts with 23 points and 10 assists.
It was a double-double that will forever be remembered by High Point fans, but it wasn't even the only one. Terry Anderson added 15 points and 11 rebounds in a supporting role.
But March is all about the memorable stories as Cinderella underdogs earn wins that will go down in history. And Johnston is quite the story as a three-point phenomenon who picked the perfect time to get his first two-pointer of the season.
Next up will be a matchup against the winner of the game between Arkansas and Hawai'i, which will give him yet another national stage to drain three-pointers and keep the underdog story rolling.
