Strickland and Omega have been at odds since early February when Swerve inadvertently cost Omega the opportunity to vie for the AEW World Championship No. 1 contendership.

Swerve's distraction of the referee allowed Andrade El Idolo to beat Omega on the Feb. 4 episode of Dynamite, which led to a match between Omega and Strickland two weeks later.

Strickland won the match and then added insult to injury by attacking Omega and hanging him over the ropes with a chain, which cemented Swerve's status as a heel.

That attack put Omega on the shelf for nearly a month until he made his surprise return at Revolution on March 15. After his win over Brody King, Strickland attempted to attack him, but Omega intervened and prevented further damage from being done.

On the ensuing episode of Dynamite, Omega challenged Swerve to a rematch of their bout from last month, and he also called for Strickland to put his status as No. 1 contender for the AEW World Championship on the line.

Swerve agreed, but only on the condition that Omega would have to put his AEW EVP title on the line as well.

Omega is regarded as one of the founding fathers of AEW, as he, The Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes were named AEW EVPs under AEW president Tony Khan when the company was first established.

Since then, Omega has not only been one of AEW's top stars, but he has also possessed legitimate decision-making power within the company.

Swerve wanted a slice of that pie, but he was denied by Omega, and he also lost his chance at an AEW world title match.
