T.Y. Hilton Announces NFL Retirement After 11 Seasons with Colts, Cowboys
Four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver T.Y. Hilton announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday.
"After an incredible journey, it's time for me to retire from the game of football and begin a new chapter," Hilton wrote as part of a message posted on X.
The 36-year-old last played in the NFL during the 2022 season.
He spent the majority of his 11-year career with the Indianapolis Colts, as the team commemorated his tenure as a member of the organization on social media. Hilton also spent one season on the Dallas Cowboys.
The Colts initially selected him in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft, adding him with the No. 92 overall pick.
Hilton immediately established himself as a deep threat during his rookie season, racking up 861 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 17.2 yards per reception.
He would go on to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in five of the next six years, including a 2016 campaign in which he amassed a league-leading 1,448 yards on 91 catches.
Hilton was also a key piece of Indianapolis' 2014 squad that made an appearance in the AFC Championship Game.
Injuries started to take a toll on him during the 2019 season, as he missed six games due to calf and quad issues.
While Hilton was able to suit up in 15 contests the following year, he only caught 56 passes for 762 yards. He spent one more season on the Colts in 2021 before appearing in three games with the Cowboys in 2022.
Hilton ranks No. 3 on Indianapolis' all-time receiving list as well as No. 3 on the team's all-time receptions leaderboard.
While his playing career is now coming to an end, he's remained involved in the sport. Hilton announced in a Dec. 2025 post on X that he was hired as the head coach of the Miami Springs High School football team, his alma mater.
