JC Tretter Elected NFLPA Executive Director, Previously Resigned from Union in 2025
The NFLPA has named its new executive director.
The union announced on Tuesday that former NFL center JC Tretter has been elected to the role. Tretter was the NFLPA president from 2020 to 2024.

"There are times in your life when you know that you are exactly where you're supposed to be. That's where I am today," Tretter said in a statement. "I'm grateful for the trust my fellow players have placed in me, and I'm going to reward that trust with my fullest commitment to these players and chart a new course for our union."
The new role for Tretter comes just eight months after he resigned from his position as chief strategy officer. According to The Athletic's Mike Jones, Tretter was considered to be a favorite to take over as executive director, but he said at the time of his resignation that he had "no interest."
"I have no interest in being considered; I've let the executive committee know that," Tretter told CBS. "I'm also going to leave the NFLPA in the coming days because I don't have anything left to give the organization."
Lloyd Howell, who was elected the NFLPA's executive director in 2023, resigned in July, just days before Tretter's decision to step down. David White served as interim executive director during the 2025 season.
According to Jones, Tretter, White and American Conference commissioner Tim Pernetti were the three finalists for the job.
