Duke's Caleb Foster Injury Update After Surgery, Latest on Timeline to Return amid of March Madness

Doric SamMar 23, 2026

No. 1 Duke is among the national title favorites in March Madness, and the team may have reinforcements coming to continue its NCAA Tournament run.

Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer told reporters on Monday that guard Caleb Foster has an "outside chance" to play in Friday's Sweet 16 game against St. John's following surgery for his foot injury.

Scheyer previously told reporters on March 10 that Foster underwent surgery on March 8 after suffering a fractured foot in the March 7 win over UNC.

One of the few upperclassmen on the Duke roster, Foster started 30 of his 31 appearances in his junior year and averaged 8.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He ranked second on the team in three-point shooting, connecting on 40.2 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.

This is the second time in Foster's three-year collegiate career that he will be forced to miss the postseason. As a freshman in 2024, he suffered a stress fracture in his ankle late in the year that kept him out of both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments. He was active for last year's team that made a run to the Final Four, but he averaged just 13.2 minutes of action across five NCAA Tournament games.
