Hottest Men's 2026 CBB Teams Heading into Selection Sunday

David KenyonMar 11, 2026

The refrain of peaking at the right time is a common trope around college basketball, especially when March Madness is around the corner.

Sure, it's coachspeak. It's also absolutely true.

To the surprise of approximately nobody, that group of sizzling teams in 2026 includes three potential No. 1 seeds. Arizona, Duke, and Florida are surging into their respective conference tournaments and toward Selection Sunday.

But we also have a mid-major program with zero losses. There's a champion from a one-bid league on a long streak, too.

Among the following teams, they boast a majority of the longest winning streaks in the country as the NCAA tournament nears.

Arizona Wildcats

Early in February, the dream died. Kansas held off Arizona in a fantastic Monday night showdown, ending the Wildcats' perfect 23-0 start. That weekend, Texas Tech followed suit and clipped Arizona in overtime.

And the Cats decided that would be all.

Led by junior guard Jaden Bradley and star freshmen Brayden Burries and Koa Peat, the regular-season Big 12 champions are 29-2. They've responded from those back-to-back losses with six straight wins, including four Top 25 victories over BYU, Houston, Kansas, and Iowa State.

As a result, Arizona is 29-2 and destined for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament for the second time in Tommy Lloyd's five-year tenure.

Arizona is seeking its first Final Four appearance since 2001.

Duke Blue Devils

Cameron Boozer

Holding an identical record to Arizona at 29-2, Duke is also fully expected to land as a top-seeded team when the bracket is released.

Star freshman Cameron Boozer has excelled this season, averaging 22.7 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. He's the front-runner for National Player of the Year and the main reason Duke repeated as ACC champs.

To date, the Blue Devils' lone setbacks are to Texas Tech by one point back in December and to rival North Carolina by three points. Duke recently earned its revenge against UNC, beating the Heels by 15 points to enter the ACC tournament on an eight-game streak.

Oh, and this recent run features a triumph over then-No. 1 Michigan. Toss in a couple of Top 25 wins against Clemson and Virginia, and Duke is rolling.

After reaching the Elite Eight in 2024 and Final Four last season, the Blue Devils have a championship-caliber team in 2026.

Florida Gators

The reigning national champions look a bit different this season, but Florida has an opportunity to demand a similar path in 2026.

Last year, the Gators held a No. 1 seed for their journey to a title. They could be sitting on that coveted line again, depending on their performance in the SEC tournament and Connecticut's results in the Big East bracket.

Regardless of that outcome, Florida is riding a hot streak.

Auburn took down the Gators in late January, but they've since rattled off 11 straight wins. Five of those opponents were NCAA tourney locks—Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky (twice), and Arkansas—and two others came against bubble-ish Texas and Texas A&M, vaulting UF to the SEC's regular-season crown.

Behind a starting lineup that all average 11-plus points, Florida is a serious threat to bring another trophy back to Gainesville.

High Point Panthers

Anyone else feeling a little déjà vu?

Last season, High Point notched 14 straight wins to secure the Big South tournament title and punch a ticket to March Madness.

Fast-forward a year, and the Panthers quite literally are doing it again. They've matched that number with 14 in a row, highlighted by Sunday's 15-point victory over Winthrop in the Big South championship.

High Point—which owns a 30-4 record—is headed back to the Big Dance and will likely fall in the 12/13 range.

Fourth-seeded Purdue survived the Panthers last year. But it's clear they could be a dangerous first-round opponent again.

Miami RedHawks

Even if you're just now diving into the college basketball world—welcome back!—you've probably noticed the loud discussions around Miami.

If the RedHawks lose in the MAC tournament, is their résumé still deserving of being an at-large selection? That's the question we cannot formally answer, although it's getting pretty hard to argue against Miami.

I mean, seriously, the RedHawks are 31-0.

Point to a few victories over non-Division I teams, call out a handful of tight results lately. Do whatever you need. But there is simply no denying that Miami has a zero in the loss column. If that were so easy, more programs would do it.

Six members of the rotation score 10-plus per game, and the RedHawks lead the country in field-goal percentage. They're an elite perimeter-shooting team.

Miami can be a nuisance in the NCAA tourney, even if that's as a No. 11 seed.

Saint Mary's Gaels

What a beautiful parting gift, right?

Next season, Gonzaga leaves for the rebuilt Pac-12. In the season-ending clash between the longtime West Coast Conference rivals, Saint Mary's picked up a victory to share the league crown—and prevent one last outright title for the Zags.

Gonzaga may bounce back and take the WCC tournament, yes. Still, that emotional result sent Saint Mary's on an eight-game winning streak, a streak that began after Gonzaga defeated the Gaels in late January and continued until Monday's loss to Santa Clara.

The most impactful part, though, is that Saint Mary's has ascended from a possible March Madness team to a stone-cold lock.

As the saying goes, the Gaels are playing their best basketball at the right time.
