The New England Patriots' depth behind Drake Maye will reportedly feature a familiar face heading into the 2026 season.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots agreed to a new two-year contract worth $7.4 million with backup quarterback Tommy DeVito on Friday. The deal includes $2 million guaranteed.

DeVito served as a reserve option for New England throughout the team's run to Super Bowl LX during the 2025 season.

The Patriots finished with a 14-3 record and won the AFC East for the first time since 2019, although DeVito didn't see any action during the season.

Maye started all 17 games for New England, including a Week 18 matchup with the Miami Dolphins as the team was still in contention for the No. 1 seed in the conference.

Still, DeVito received praise from Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at the end of the season.

"I think that's a tough proposition to have, is just coming in at the end of training camp and trying to get acclimated offensively," Vrabel told reporters on Jan. 30. "So, to his credit, he's done a really nice job, works with guys and receivers on Mondays, maybe guys that are on the practice squad or that didn't play in the game."

"So, I have enjoyed the time here with Tommy," he added.

DeVito was released by the New York Giants near the end of training camp before he was claimed by the Patriots off waivers.

He signed with New York as an undrafted free agent in 2023, appearing in 12 total games and making eight starts across two seasons with the team.

DeVito completed 65.3 percent of his passes for 1,358 yards and eight touchdowns compared to three interceptions during his Giants tenure, averaging 6.1 yards per attempt.

During the 2025 preseason, he threw for 323 yards and four touchdowns while getting picked off once in three games. DeVito also posted a 78.9 completion percentage.
