According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kansas City traded the cornerback to the Rams in exchange for the No. 29 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, as well a fifth-rounder, a sixth-rounder and a 2027 third-rounder.
McDuffie has been with the Chiefs his entire career since they selected him in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft.
That tenure includes two Super Bowl titles and two All-Pro Team selections, including when he was selected to the First Team All-Pro in 2023 for a club that won its second consecutive Lombardi Trophy.
The Washington product had seven passes defended during that playoff run, cementing his place in Chiefs history despite this trade.
McDuffie is entering the final season of his contract, so Kansas City did move on from him before he may have left to sign elsewhere next offseason. It also got a significant return package, including an additional first-rounder in this year's draft.
As for the Rams, this move further underscores their win-now mentality after reaching last season's NFC Championship Game. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is 38 years old and likely in the closing stretch of his career, so adding a potential All-Pro at cornerback only elevates the team's chances at competing in the immediate future.
He joins a defense that was a solid but unspectacular 10th in the league in points allowed and 17th in yardage allowed during the 2025 campaign. Considering the offense was first in both yards and points, it won't take much improvement from the defense to solidify Los Angeles as a legitimate contender.
And having McDuffie on that defense is an ideal way to create some of that improvement.
