WWE WrestleMania 42 Matches Triple H Must Book for Las Vegas Card

Donald WoodMar 5, 2026

The only aspect of WrestleMania 42 for WWE that is more disappointing than ticket sales is the lackluster build, but there are several marquee matchups that Triple H and company can shoehorn onto the card to salvage the two-day event.

Wrestling fans understood that WWE holding its biggest event in the same city two years in a row, despite Las Vegas' tourism allure, was a major risk. As a result, the excitement for 'Mania is way down, and the card so far has done nothing to dispel those concerns.

Here are the matches WWE must add to save the WrestleMania 42 card.

Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi

Brock Lesnar is one of the biggest stars in pro wrestling history, and he will add to his impressive resume with a match at WrestleMania 42.

The Beast Incarnate has set an open challenge for the event, and the man who should answer the call is former NXT champion Oba Femi.

WrestleMania is supposed to be about creating iconic moments, and nothing creates a star faster than standing toe-to-toe with Lesnar.

Not only does Femi have the size, strength, and presence to convince fans that he deserves to be in the ring with The Beast, but he also has the aura needed to believably beat Lesnar on the biggest stage in WWE.

Lesnar is scheduled for several episodes of Raw on the Road to WrestleMania, so he will need someone he can work with who will generate interest.

With Femi's size and lack of fear, the two men can hold off any physicality until the week before The Show of Shows, when security cannot hold them back any longer.

Win or lose, Femi working with Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 will give the fresh face the credibility he needs as he represents the next generation of WWE Superstars.

AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch vs. Bayley

The return of AJ Lee has largely positioned her as a nostalgia act, but WWE seems determined to put her in a marquee spot at WrestleMania 42.

To offset her limitations since returning, having her defend the Women's Intercontinental Championship against Becky Lynch and Bayley in a Triple Threat would at least make the matchup entertaining.

The three-time Divas champion has been inconsistent on the mic and has yet to recapture her peak in-ring form. To compensate for the promos, keeping Lynch in the title scene despite her loss at Elimination Chamber makes the storyline more interesting.

To ensure the in-ring quality of the matchup is worthy of the stage, adding Bayley to the mix guarantees fans will be intrigued by the bout's technical aspects.

The Triple Threat stipulation removes the need for heavy protection for Lee, as Lynch and Bayley can go all-out without worrying about one-on-one booking.

The women's IC title would instantly feel prestigious with three of the most decorated performers fighting on the biggest stage to take it home.

Gunther vs. Rey Mysterio

Over the last two years, Gunther has emerged as one of WWE's biggest stars.

His recent string of career-ending matches has made headlines—Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles—but his path to a match at The Show of Shows remains unclear.

On Monday's episode of Raw, it became clear that The Ring General should retire Rey Mysterio on the sport's biggest stage to keep his momentum rolling and to give the lucha legend a proper sendoff.

Gunther has been engaged in a temporary feud with Dragon Lee due to his association with Styles, but Lee also has ties to Mysterio.

After The Ring General decimated Lee and disrespected his mask, The Master of the 619 should return to action and confront the Austrian, setting the stage for Mysterio to put his career on the line.

Adding the 51-year-old to the growing list of legends Gunther has retired would be worthy of the WrestleMania stage. The Las Vegas showcase would also be the ideal place for Mysterio to say goodbye to the sport he helped change.
