Odafe Oweh, Commanders Agree to Massive Contract in NFL Free Agency, How Much Will DE Get Paid?

Andrew PetersMar 9, 2026

Odafe Oweh is on the move after just one season with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the linebacker agreed to a four-year, $100 million contract with the Washington Commanders. The deal includes $68 million guaranteed.

The deal comes after a solid year for Oweh in which he recorded 38 tackles and 7.5 sacks, the second-most of his career.

Oweh, 27, was a first-round pick in 2021 by the Baltimore Ravens. He spent the first four years of his career with the Ravens but was traded to Los Angeles last October in return for safety Alohi Gilman and a 2027 seventh-rounder.

Oweh spent the 2025 season playing on the final year of his rookie contract after the Ravens picked up his fifth-year option ahead of the 2024 campaign.

After a solid first year with the Chargers, there was some speculation that the team would use the franchise tag on him, but ultimately opted to let him hit unrestricted free agency for the first time. Using the tag on Oweh would've cost Los Angeles $26.8 million.

Ultimately, Oweh decided to move on from the Chargers after less than one season, and he'll now look to put together a strong first year with the Commanders.

Washington is coming off a rough season that saw star quarterback Jayden Daniels miss significant time with various injuries, but the team is still just a season removed from making a run to the NFC Championship.

The Commanders needed to have a big offseason to stay in the mix, and landing a player like Oweh should help.
