Latest Derek Carr Trade Rumors Update NFL Interest Amid Buzz Surrounding QB's Retirement
Despite rumors of quarterback Derek Carr's potential interest in coming out of retirement, it is being reported that no suitors have taken steps toward acquiring him yet.
According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, no teams have reached out to the New Orleans Saints through the first week of free agency about possibly striking a deal for Carr.
Florio initially reported last week that no teams had reached out to New Orleans about the quarterback as of the NFL Combine.

New Report on Colts-Richardson Situation

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
In February, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported that "the right situation and coaching staff could lure Carr back onto the field" after he retired and sat out the entire 2025 season.
In order for Carr to join another team, though, that team would have to make a trade with the Saints or the Saints would have to release him since they still retain his rights.
The 34-year-old Carr spent his first nine seasons with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders franchise after they selected him in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft, and he played his final two seasons with the Saints.
Carr is the Raiders' all-time leader in passing yardage (35,222) and passing touchdowns (217), and he did some good things during his short tenure in New Orleans as well.
In 2023, Carr went 9-8 as a starter, completing 68.4 percent of his passes for 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
The 2024 campaign was more of a struggle, though, as injuries limited Carr to 10 games, and he went 5-5, while completing 67.7 percent of his passing attempts for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns and five picks.
A torn labrum contributed to Carr's decision to retire, but Rapoport, Pelissero and Garafolo reported that he currently has "no shoulder limitations."
Despite a lack of movement thus far, the four-time Pro Bowler could prove to be a starting quarterback option for multiple teams depending on how free agency and the draft play out.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns are among the teams with potential quarterback needs right now.
One option that seems unlikely, though, is Carr returning to start for the Saints since 2025 second-round pick Tyler Shough performed well as a rookie, going 5-4 in nine starts and completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 2,384 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions en route to finishing second in NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.
