Latest A.J. Brown Trade Rumors on Patriots Buzz, Eagles' 'Unserious' Asking Price for Star WR

Adam WellsFeb 28, 2026

The New England Patriots are keeping an eye on A.J. Brown's availability in a potential trade, but they are waiting for the Philadelphia Eagles to lower their demands before getting seriously involved.

Per Andrew Callahan and Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, the Patriots have "explored trade talks" for Brown, but feel that Philadelphia is being "unserious" with its current asking price right now.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Friday that one NFL executive said the Eagles want a first- and second-round draft pick in exchange for the star wide receiver.

NFL insider Josina Anderson added:

Asked about the possibility of moving on from Brown, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman told reporters on Tuesday at the NFL scouting combine that "it's hard" to improve your roster if "you're just subtracting great players."

McLane has stated that the odds of Brown getting traded are probably close to 50-50, with Roseman likely needing "to be convinced" that it's in the best interest of the Eagles to trade their No. 1 receiver.

Even though everything at this point in the offseason is posturing because every team wants to be seen was "winning" a deal, Roseman has historically not been someone who gives up on high-level players still in the prime of their careers.

The Athletic's Zach Berman rated Roseman's worst trade as the 2010 deal that sent Chris Clemons and a fourth-round draft pick to the Seattle Seahawks for Darryl Tapp.

It did backfire because Clemons went on to be a key pass-rusher in the early days of the Legion of Boom-era Seahawks, but he was entering his age-29 season and had a total of 20 sacks in six seasons from 2004 to '09. There was nothing to indicate he would go on to rack up 33.5 sacks in his first three seasons in Seattle.

A first- and second-round pick for Brown in 2026 would be more than he was traded for four years ago when the Eagles acquired him from the Tennessee Titans. That deal only required Philadelphia to give up the 18th pick in the 2022 draft.

The Patriots' first pick in 2026 is at No. 31 overall. Executive vice president Eliot Wolf told reporters this week that they are "open" to anything when asked about potentially trading their top draft pick to improve the roster.

Brown, who will be entering his age-29 season in 2026, has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his four years with the Eagles. He caught 78 passes for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 starts last season.
