New Cowboys Rumors on Brandon Aubrey Contract Offer Ahead of NFL Free Agency
The Dallas Cowboys have extended a contract offer to kicker Brandon Aubrey that would make him the highest-paid player at his position in the NFL, according to Clarence Hill Jr. of DLLS Sports.
Aubrey still wants more than what the Cowboys have offered, per Hill.
"The Dallas Cowboys offered to make Brandon Aubrey the highest paid kicker in the NFL last September, surpassing the $6.4 million annual salary of Harrison Butker. Per source, the Cowboys did not offer Aubrey $7.5 million or even $7 million. But it was more than Butker," reported Hill on Thursday. "Per source, Aubrey's agent Todd France countered with $10 million annual offer and shut down negotiations until getting the bus at the combine on Wednesday. The Cowboys don't plan to up their offer and are comfortable placing the second round tender on him, which could result in a restricted free agent deal of $5.5-$5.8 million and take their chances on getting a second round pick if he signs elsewhere."
The three-time Pro Bowler will be a restricted free agent this offseason after earning just over $1 million for his 2025 campaign.
Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News previously reported on Tuesday that Dallas offered Aubrey a deal containing an average annual salary of "close to $7.5 million" and that the 30-year-old is searching for a new contract worth roughly $10 million per year instead.
The current highest-paid kicker in the NFL is Harrison Butker of the Kansas City Chiefs, who earns $6.4 million per season (via Spotrac).
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones revealed that the team was in discussions with Aubrey regarding a new contract prior to the start of the 2025 season.
"We've been in talks with Aubrey since before the season started," Jones told reporters Monday (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk). "That's been a journey. We haven't been able to get to a point where we can all agree so it hasn't gotten done, but we'd love to get him done."
Aubrey's high asking price is understandable, as he's been stellar ever since the Cowboys signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2023.
He's connected on 88.2 percent of his field goals throughout his career, which includes an 85.7 percent mark during the 2025 season.
Aubrey has showcased his long range on several occasions, as his six field goals from at least 60 yards out are the most in NFL history (via ESPN's Todd Archer).
He's earned one First Team All-Pro selection and two Second Team All-Pro nods throughout his three seasons in Dallas.
As the Cowboys look to retain a key special teams piece heading into the 2026 season, negotiations with Aubrey appear to be ongoing.
