Rams Reportedly to Propose NFL Rule Change Centered on Seahawks' Controversial 2-Point Conversion

Timothy RappFeb 21, 2026

The Los Angeles Rams reportedly will submit rule-change proposals this offseason regarding the controversial ruling on the fumble-turned-two-point-conversion that contributed to them losing a crucial regular-season matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.

Here was the play in question, which initially was ruled an incomplete pass before being overturned as a fumble recovered by the Seahawks in the end zone:

The Rams are hoping to make similar scenarios unsuccessful in the future and may propose two separate proposals to do so. Per that report, "While the language remains unclear, one source with knowledge of the proposal(s) said the Rams' goal is to 'fix what went wrong in a few places.'"

It was a highly consequential play, tying the game in the fourth quarter. The contest ultimately went to overtime and the Seahawks won 38-37.

"I'm glad [Zach Charbonnet] picked it up," Sam Darnold told reporters in December regarding the two-point conversion, "and that obviously was a game-changing play."

That gave the Seahawks a one-game lead in the NFC West. They would ultimately win the division and claim the top seed in the conference, allowing them to host the Rams in the NFC Championship Game. Had that December result been different, it may have been the Rams hosting the NFC Championship and ultimately lifting the Lombardi Trophy against the overmatched New England Patriots.

So you can't blame the Rams for circling back to that controversial two-point conversion, though what exactly they will try to change remains to be seen.
