Does Tom Brady Want Patriots to Lose? The GOAT Reacts to Critics While Discussing Super Bowl Pick

Joseph ZuckerFeb 3, 2026

New England Patriots legend Tom Brady is remaining neutral as his old team is set to face off with the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX.

"I don't have a dog in the fight in this one," he said in the newest episode of the Let's Go! podcast (via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk). "May the best team win. And in terms of the Patriots, this is a new chapter in New England, and I'm glad everyone's embraced the Mike Vrabel regime, all the amazing players that have worked so hard to get their club to this position. We did it for 20 years. There was a little bit of a hiatus in there, but the Patriots are back and it's a very exciting time for everyone in New England."

Host Jim Gray brought up the notion that Brady might actually be rooting against the Patriots, lest it take any shine away from what the franchise achieved during the Bill Belichick era.

Brady concurred when Gray called that theory "idiotic."

"I embrace the fact that people will say a lot of things to get a click," Brady said starting at the 5:34 mark. "For me, there's nothing anyone can ever do that can take away from my experience of competing and playing. I got to live my dream and I loved every minute of it."

Putting on his NFL analyst hat, the 15-time Pro Bowler picked the Seahawks as a slight Super Bowl favorite over the Patriots.

"I just think if these two teams play 10 times that Seattle probably wins six and New England probably wins four," he said at the 28:16 mark. "… The Patriots are a bit of an underdog."

There's always an eternal push and pull for former players who enter the broadcast booth. They're paid to provide reasoned analysis and not openly root for their old teams.

That creates a situation where Brady has to publicly go against the franchise with whom he won six titles.

The retired quarterback isn't being a hater, and his Super Bowl assessment isn't overly harsh toward the Pats. They're broadly a 4.5-point underdog in the eyes of oddsmakers.

It's equally absurd that a victory for New England on Sunday should lead to any reassessments of the franchise's dynastic run. The San Francisco 49ers winning a Super Bowl in 1994 with Steve Young didn't cheapen what they accomplished with years earlier Joe Montana.

Coach Mike Vrabel and quarterback Drake Maye have a long, long way to go if they're ever going to surpass what Brady and Belichick achieved together in Foxborough.
