WWE SummerSlam 2015: Booking Decisions That Must Be Made

Donald WoodAug 3, 2015

After a wild end to Battleground in July, the WWE Universe is ready to turn the page and prepare for the second-biggest pay-per-view of the year as SummerSlam 2015 approaches on August 23.

From the possible appearance of Sting to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match to a likely four-way battle for the Money in the Bank briefcase, there are several marquee stories that should be told at the August PPV.

Here are the booking decisions that must be made at SummerSlam 2015.

Sting Costs Bray Wyatt the Victory

Despite claims that Sting will not be in attendance at SummerSlam, as reported by PWInsider Elite (via WrestlingInc), the best option for The Icon at this PPV would be a battle against Bray Wyatt heading into Night of Champions.

The stage for the potential match would be set by Sting's interference at the August PPV, which would cost Wyatt a victory. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose have been feuding with The Wyatt Family in recent weeks, and Sting could be the backup the former Shield members need if Wyatt adds another Superstar to his stable.

With Brock Lesnar and Undertaker likely going away after SummerSlam, WWE needs a marquee name moving forward. Sting hasn't been seen since WrestleMania, but a main event-caliber storyline and match with Wyatt would be exactly what the company requires heading into the fall.

Not only would a Sting appearance at SummerSlam increase the mainstream notoriety of the event, but it would also build toward the next pay-per-view in September.

Seth Rollins Will Retain World Title

John Cena made world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins tap out in the middle of the ring on a recent edition of Raw, but at SummerSlam, Rollins should defeat the United States champion and look strong at the important PPV.

Rollins has been made to look like a complete fool, and it’s about time Cena paid the WWE back for making him look unbeatable for so many years by taking a loss to the world champion. Cena’s momentum can’t be stopped by one loss, especially after he's made both Rollins and Kevin Owens look completely ridiculous of late.

The hope is that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon will agree to put the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line at SummerSlam and that Rollins will simply pin Cena clean in the middle of the ring, validating at least some of his title reign.

Instead, most fans expect some sort of disqualification, with Rollins walking out as the defending champion in a fluky fashion.

If WWE cares about the long-term future of Rollins and his validity as a champion moving forward, he must earn pinfalls over face challengers from time to time. It doesn’t have to be clean, but pinning Cena—even with a handful of jorts—would help make him look strong.

Put Money in the Bank in a Fatal 4-Way

Owens has been cast aside after tapping out to Cena at Battleground, but a Fatal 4-Way featuring him, Cesaro, Randy Orton and Sheamus for the Money in the Bank briefcase could salvage this entire storyline.

Owens and Cesaro are two of the most talented workers in the industry today, and along with Orton and Sheamus, the four-way battle for the briefcase would be the marquee secondary storyline that the build to SummerSlam desperately needs.

While it's unusual for a Money in the Bank briefcase holder to defend his No. 1 contender status in a multi-man match, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase four elite talents on a four-hour broadcast.

Sheamus would likely have to retain his briefcase in order to progress the current storylines, but the match itself would be a contender for the best of the night due to the raw skill and athleticism from all of the competitors involved.
