Cowboys Reportedly Fire 3 Defensive Coaches After Christian Parker Named DC

Andrew PetersJan 26, 2026

After hiring Christian Parker as defensive coordinator last week, the Dallas Cowboys reportedly have moved on from a handful of defensive staffers.

Per Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys fired defensive passing game coordinator/safeties coach Andre Curtis, secondary/cornerbacks coach David Overstreet II and linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi.

Curtis, Overstreet and Borgonzi were all on Matt Eberflus' staff with the Chicago Bears and came to Dallas last offseason when Eberflus was named defensive coordinator.

The Cowboys fired Eberflus at the end of the season after just one year with the team. Dallas had one of the worst defenses in the league during the 2025 campaign, allowing the third-most yards per game (377) and the most points per game (30.1).

The Cowboys managed to take Parker from their rival Philadelphia Eagles, where he had served as the team's passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach in 2024 and 2025. He helped anchor one of the best defenses in the league in 2024 as the Eagles won the Super Bowl.

Before his time in Philadelphia, Parker spent time with the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers and a handful of college teams.

While the Cowboys got their new defensive coordinator from their rival, they didn't return the favor. Dallas reportedly blocked the Eagles' request to interview offensive coordinator Kalyton Adams for the same position in Philadelphia.

Dallas will now have to replace some position coaches, and the team is already getting busy with that task. Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Cowboys interviewed Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebackers coach Denzel Martin for the same position in Dallas.

Additionally, the team interviewed  Eagles assistant linebackers coach Ronell Williams, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. They also interviewed Vikings defensive line coach Marcus Dixon.
