Eagles' Christian Parker, Cowboys Reportedly Agree to DC Contract to Replace Matt Eberflus

Julia StumbaughJan 22, 2026

The Dallas Cowboys are replacing Matt Eberflus with a first-time defensive coordinator.

The Cowboys are working on hiring Philadelphia Eagles passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Christian Parker as their next DC, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

Parker, 34, worked on the Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos defensive staffs before joining the Eagles in 2024.

He will take over for Eberflus, who was fired earlier this month after the Cowboys ranked 30th in yards allowed and 32nd in points allowed per game during his single season as DC.

Parker has experience developing multiple elite cornerbacks including Jaire Alexander with the Packers and Patrick Surtain II with the Broncos.

In Philadelphia, Parker worked with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean as both rookies became key parts of last season's Super Bowl-winning roster.

Both Mitchell and DeJean went on to earn All-Pro nods during their second NFL seasons. That marked the first time the Eagles have had an All-Pro cornerback since 2004, per NBC Sports' Dave Zangaro.

The Athletic's Zach Berman wrote in a profile of Parker ahead of the 2025 season that the coach "considers himself the head coach of the secondary" in Philadelphia.

Parker has felt ready to call plays since at least the end of the 2024 season, during which he spent time observing Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fango and head coach Nick Sirianni, per Berman.

He will now get his first shot at calling plays with the Cowboys, who are looking to mix things up after turning to an experienced candidate in former Indianapolis Colts DC and Chicago Bears head coach Eberflus didn't work out last season.

Given Parker's success with players like Alexander, Surtain, Mitchell and DeJean, the Cowboys will hope bringing in Parker can help revamp a struggling secondary.

Dallas could also potentially decide to target a cornerback in the upcoming draft, especially following the news that DaRon Bland underwent foot surgery earlier this month. Bleacher Report's latest mock predicts the Cowboys will target Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell in the first round of the upcoming draft.
