Julia StumbaughJun 28, 2026

The Charlotte Hornets are reportedly parting ways with one of the most prolific scorers in franchise history.

Miles Bridges is headed to Phoenix after seven seasons and no playoff appearances in Charlotte.

The Hornets traded Bridges a 2029 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick on Sunday in exchange for Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neale and a 2033 first-round pick, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

It has been a busy start to the offseason for the Hornets after they also traded LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Bridges is signed through one more season with a $22.8 million cap hit before he is set to hit unrestricted free agency ahead of his age-29 season in 2027, according to Spotrac.

He had averaged 17.1 points while shooting 46 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from deep through 77 games of the 2025-26 season.

Bridges also contributed 5.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game in his final season with the Hornets.

The Hornets missed the playoffs for a 10th straight season after a play-in loss to the Orlando Magic in April.

Bridges, who has spent all eight years of his pro career in Charlotte, will hope to make his NBA playoff debut with his new team this spring.

Originally selected by the Los Angeles Clippers with the No. 12 pick of the 2018 draft before he was flipped to the Hornets in a draft-day trade, Bridges will leave Charlotte having made 501 appearances over seven seasons with the franchise.

He ranks third to only Hornets legends Kemba Walker and Dell Curry for the franchise lead in career field goals (2,972) while ranking fourth in total rebounds with 3,077.

The Suns are hoping to make it back to the postseason next spring after a disappointing first-round exit.

Phoenix stayed in the playoff picture despite spending most of the season without Jalen Green, only to be bounced from the playoffs through a first-round sweep by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Suns owner Mat Ishbia noted when talking about his approach to the trade deadline in January the Suns had rarely seen their full team together for a significant stretch of the 2025-26 season.

The Suns will now hope bringing in Bridges to join a healthier lineup next fall will set the franchise on track to record its first playoff game win since 2023.
