Latest MLB Rumors Reveal Max Scherzer's FA Timetable, Next Nationals Player on Trade Block, More
MLB spring training is a month away, which means the offseason is coming to an end for many.
But Max Scherzer could have an extended offseason this year.
Per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon, the veteran pitcher "said he is healthy and ready to sign at any moment if certain teams call," however, he is also willing to wait until after Opening Day to sign if it means joining one of his preferred teams.

According to Rosenthal and Sammon, the 41-year-old did not give details about which teams he prefers.
Scherzer is coming off a season in which he recorded a 5.19 ERA and a 5-5 record in 17 starts, but he improved in the postseason, posting a 3.77 ERA in three appearances, two of which came in the World Series.
While Scherzer is staying patient this offseason, his former club, the Washington Nationals, reportedly could get busy on the trade market. According to Rosenthal and Sammon, Jacob Young has drawn trade interest, though the team's desire to move him is still unknown.
Rosenthal and Sammon noted that the Nats believe Young and other players "might improve with the instruction they will receive under the team's new regime," though Washington traded a different young player, MacKenzie Gore, on Thursday.
The New York Mets have had a busy week, with their most recent move being a trade for Milwaukee Brewers' Freddy Peralta. The Brewers got a handful of top prospects in return for Peralta, but Rosenthal and Sammon noted that outfielder prospect Carson Benge "was never seriously on the table" in trade talks.
With the season nearing, teams are eyeing moves to bolster their rosters before Opening Day. According to Rosenthal and Sammon, a handful of teams are interested in veteran Aaron Sanchez, who has not pitched in the majors since 2022.
The 33-year-old won the Dominican Winter League's Pitcher of the Year award after recording a 1.55 ERA, Rosenthal and Sammon noted.
