Red Sox, Phillies Trolled by MLB Fans After Bo Bichette's Mets Contract in Free Agency
The New York Mets reportedly signed Bo Bichette to a three-year, $126 million deal on Friday, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic and Jeff Passan of ESPN, with two opt-outs cooked into the agreement.
It was great news for the Mets but a rougher development for Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox fans who had been hoping to land the star infielder after rumors linked the two clubs to him during free agency.
As expected, MLB fans elsewhere had fun at their expense, while Phillies and Red Sox fans provided the angst:

The Phillies reportedly made Bichette a longer deal with more overall money, though the infielder opted for a higher average annual salary and opt-outs that will allow him to hit free agency again as soon as next year.
As for the state of the Phillies and Red Sox, it's easy to see why both fanbases feel angst.
The Phillies fell short in the playoffs yet again last season and have failed to get over the hump with a group it now appears they'll largely run back. In fact, it's possible Philadelphia will be worse—starting pitcher and postseason stalwart Ranger Suárez signed with the Red Sox, while catcher J.T. Realmuto remains unsigned. The Phillies have made a few minor moves around the fringes of the roster, but it's hard to look at the current state of the team and feel they'll compete with the Dodgers.
The Red Sox, meanwhile, added Suárez and veteran catcher Willson Contreras, but they still haven't replaced the pop in their lineup lost when Alex Bregman signed with the Chicago Cubs. Like Philly, the Red Sox should have a strong rotation, but it's fair to question if the bats will be enough to keep them in contention with the top teams in the American League.
Bichette would have been a very nice addition for both the Phillies and Red Sox. Instead, those fanbases are left to lament what might have been.
