Although the Toronto Blue Jays' pursuit of free-agent outfielder Kyle Tucker ended Thursday when he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Rosenthal noted that he does not envision the Jays pivoting and re-signing Bichette.
Bichette, 27, has spent his entire seven-year MLB career in Toronto, earning two All-Star selections and American League MVP votes across three different seasons.
After hitting at least .290 with 20 or more home runs in three straight seasons from 2021 to 2023, Bichette experienced a significant drop-off in 2024.
Injuries limited him to 81 games, and he largely struggled when healthy, slashing a career-worst .225/.277/.322 with four home runs, 31 RBI and 29 runs scored.
Bichette bounced back in a big way last season, though, matching his career best with a .311 batting average to go along with a .357 on-base percentage and .483 slugging percentage.
He also delivered 18 home runs, 94 RBI and 78 runs scored for a Blue Jays team that won their first American League East title since 2015.
A knee injury caused Bichette to miss the American League Division Series and American League Championship Series, but the Jays reached the World Series, and Bichette was able to return and play in all seven games.
Bichette was among Toronto's best hitters in the series, slashing .348/.444/.478 with one homer and six RBI, but the Blue Jays fell to the Dodgers in a dramatic Game 7.
