NFL Agent Calls Packers a 'Mom-and-Pop Organization' amid Matt LaFleur Contract Talks, Latest Rumors
The Green Bay Packers' extended contract negotiations with head coach Matt LaFleur have played a role in the way the team is currently perceived.
"They're still a little bit of a mom-and-pop organization," an NFL agent told Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "You don't get to hedge your bets. Matt has some leverage. He's going to want a deal where he can coach knowing he's not going to get fired."
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that the Packers planned to engage LaFleur in contract negotiations at the end of their season with a "mutual goal" of signing an extension, although no agreement has been reached yet.
"It's years, not money," another agent told Silverstein. "It's about LaFleur having some security, knowing he can coach without worrying about getting fired. He wants to know if he's their guy. Are they all-in with him?"
LaFleur entered the 2025 season ranking No. 17 among all head coaches with an average annual salary of $5 million, via Front Office Sports.
The Packers ended the year with a 9-7-1 record and clinched their third consecutive playoff berth, although they were eliminated with a 31-27 loss to the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card round.
Green Bay held a 21-3 lead at halftime, but ultimately couldn't hold on for the win.
The loss marked the Packers' second consecutive Wild Card exit, although LaFleur could still end up receiving a new extension ahead of the team's 2026 campaign.
