In September, the Commanders gained final approval from the Washington, D.C. City Council to build a new stadium on the grounds of RFK Stadium, which was home to the Commanders from 1961 to 1996.

Per David Aldridge of The Athletic, the new, 65,000-seat stadium will cost $3.8 billion to construct, and it is scheduled to open in 2030.

Since 1997, the Commanders have played in Landover, Maryland, at the venue currently known as Northwest Stadium.

Commanders owner Josh Harris, who purchased the team from Daniel Snyder in 2023, is a Maryland native, but he grew up attending games in D.C. at RFK Stadium, and he is taking the Commanders back to their roots.
