Red Sox Rumors Update Eugenio Suarez Buzz After Alex Bregman's Cubs Contract
The Boston Red Sox could choose to pursue third baseman Eugenio Suárez after Alex Bregman left to sign with the Chicago Cubs in free agency, according to MassLive's Sean McAdam and Chris Cotillo.
"According to a source with knowledge of Suárez's market, the Red Sox have indicated they 'like' Suárez and there's an expectation that he will soon find out whether or not they plan on being serious bidders," McAdam and Cotillo reported Monday. "About a month ago, the Red Sox viewed him a fall-back option if Bregman, Jorge Polanco, Ketel Marte and others fell off the board. Now, with options dwindling, Suárez seems like someone they will have to at least explore."

The Red Sox also considered changing their offseason focus to add more pitching help after Bregman joined the Cubs, per McAdam and Cotillo.
Bregman spent the 2025 season in Boston before heading to Chicago on a five-year, $175 million contract.
If the Red Sox are looking to make up for his power at the hot corner, Suárez is an intriguing option.
The 34-year-old appeared in 159 combined games with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners in 2025, hitting 49 home runs and 28 doubles to go along with 118 RBI. He also posted a .228/.298/.526 slash line.
Suárez has hit at least 30 homers in four of the past five years.
The Red Sox are looking to remain competitive in the American League East next season after wrapping up an 89-73 finish in 2025, falling to the New York Yankees in an AL Wild Card Series clash.
