Lakers Trade Rumors Link Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga to LA, Latest NBA Landing Spots Buzz
As the Jonathan Kuminga rumors continue to swirl, keep an eye on the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to NBA reporter Jake Fischer, the Lakers' "known preference at this deadline is to acquire a true 3-and-D wing with size if possible to provide some point-of-attack resistance on the perimeter as well as some shooting, but it must be said the Lakers, according to sources, did call Golden State about Kuminga during the sides' summer standoff in restricted free agency. I'm told that the Lakers have likewise continued to monitor Kuminga's situation while casting a wide net to try to find help on a very limited wing market."
Other suitors remain interested.
According to that report, the Sacramento Kings "remain a confirmed suitor for Kuminga, but the various road blocks that prevented the Kings from acquiring him via sign-and-trade over the summer are still in the way." But Fischer added that the Golden State Warriors aren't interested in taking back Malik Monk's contract and the Kings don't want to put a future first-round pick in the deal, which could make it difficult to find a framework for a three-team deal.
The Phoenix Suns, on the other hand, "no longer covet" Kuminga. That makes sense given their surprising 24-15 start.
Kuminga, 23, is averaging just 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, shooting 43.1 percent from the field and 32 percent from three. He remains a poor fit next to Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, making a trade logical. The issue for the Warriors is that Kuminga's trade value is reportedly at an "all-time low," per The Athletic's Nick Friedell.
