Red Sox Are Only MLB Team Without FA Signing During Offseason, Top Remaining Targets
That heavy wind coming from the northeastern part of the United States is the collective annoyed sigh from Boston Red Sox fans getting impatient while their team continues to operate with a very patient approach in free agency.
After Michael Lorenzen agreed to a deal with the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, the Red Sox are now the only team that has yet to sign a free agent to an MLB deal this offseason.

There are reasons to explain why the Red Sox haven't added an outside free agent. They seem to be in a holding pattern waiting for Alex Bregman to make a decision.
Per ESPN's Jesse Rogers, Kazuma Okamoto's deal with the Toronto Blue Jays may have pushed them out of the running for Bregman. The Arizona Diamondbacks are also considered a frontrunner for the three-time All-Star.
In the same report, Buster Olney noted the Red Sox "want" to keep Bregman and have "signaled a willingness" to give him a significant contract.
The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey added that Boston's current offer to Bregman is considered an "aggressive" one, while Bo Bichette could become an option if Bregman signs elsewhere.
Even though the Red Sox haven't been signing players, it's not as if they have been quiet this offseason. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow made two notable trades with the St. Louis Cardinals to add Sonny Gray and Willson Contreras, as well as a deal to acquire Johan Oviedo from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Boston has been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Freddy Peralta if the Milwaukee Brewers decide to trade him.
The problem is Red Sox fans have spent the offseason so far watching the Toronto Blue Jays, who play in the same division, take advantage of their appearance in the World Series last season by aggressively signing players like Okamoto, Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce and Tyler Rogers to try improving on their 2025 success.
Boston seems almost certain to do something significant, and there are still plenty of high-profile players still available, but patience can be hard to maintain when even the Rockies are making deals.
