Ravens Players Reportedly Were 'Crying' in John Harbaugh's Office After HC Was Fired

Zach BacharJan 7, 2026

Several Baltimore Ravens players reportedly had emotional reactions after finding out head coach John Harbaugh was fired, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"The players were coming to his office, crying, hugging him, sending him goodbyes, calling him one by one," Schefter reported during a Wednesday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. "If they felt that way, why are Mark Andrews and Zay Flowers and Isaiah Likely and all these players coming in crying, hugging him, giving him these long warm goodbyes? I'm not buying that."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport previously reported that Harbaugh "lost the locker room" and Ravens players "just simply had doubts about whether or not they wanted to play for him as their head coach" before he was fired on Tuesday.

Rapoport noted that "maybe not 100 percent" of Baltimore's locker room lost faith in Harbaugh, but disconnect between the coach and Lamar Jackson eventually spread to other players on the roster.

Jackson declined to comment when asked by reporters if he wanted Harbaugh to return as Baltimore's head coach following the team's season-ending 26-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

"You're asking me about next year," Jackson said, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "I'm so caught up in what just happened tonight, I can't focus on that right now. I just told you. I'm stunned right now. I'm still trying to process what's going on."

ESPN's Jamison Hensley also reported that Ravens running back Derrick Henry and offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley "declined to give a resounding vote of confidence to Harbaugh."

Harbaugh held the second-longest tenure with one team among active head coaches prior to his dismissal, as he was hired by Baltimore in 2008.

He owned a record of 180-113 during his time with the Ravens, helping them win their second Super Bowl in franchise history during the 2012 season.

Baltimore advanced to the playoffs in three straight seasons from 2022-24, clinching AFC North titles in both 2023 and 2024.

The Ravens were hit hard by injuries in 2025 but still had a chance to advance to the postseason, although a missed game-winning field goal from kicker Tyler Loop against the Steelers ended Baltimore's postseason hopes.

Now, the Ravens will look to hire a new head coach and avoid missing the playoffs in consecutive years for the first time since 2017.
